Basically Perfect Acres or Name TBD :)

If you're looking for a peaceful and secluded getaway, look no further than our tiny cabin forest retreat in Lac-des-Plages, Quebec, just 30 minutes away from Mont Tremblant. That is what we cannot wait to say to all of our wonderful customers this coming summer! We have been diligently working on building two stylish, modern, yet cozy tiny cabins on the magnificent 220 wooded acres of our forest and we are confident every piece of the plan will come together shortly. In the meantime, below is a quick glance into the process into Sam’s building cabins all by himself, every weekend he could. As we are a deliberately car-free household, the construction of the cabins was a challenging venture as we are well over 400 km (approx 250 miles) away from the forest, but when there is a will, there is always a way. I am sure Sam has a lot more to say about this whole experience, but to sum up: there were some bear bags hanging from birches to preserve a limited supply of food; a few weeks of on-and-off rain in a paper-thin tent; some wild beasts that sounded even more impressive through said paper-thin tent haha; and a lot of not-so-gourmet camp fire meals that mostly came in a tin can. Nonetheless, none of it mattered when at the end of each gruelling day, Sam could cozy up with a book in front of the camp fire and see all of the stars an eye can see with no light or sound pollution. Just tranquillity, peace, and breathtaking views.

Nestled among the mature hardwood trees, our retreat is destined to be the perfect place to disconnect from the stresses of daily life and reconnect with nature. With its minimalist design, the cabins will provide everything you need for a comfortable stay, without any unnecessary distractions.

The cabins will feature a kitchenette, a comfortable loft bed, and a wood-burning stove for warmth on chilly nights. Large windows will offer stunning views of the surrounding forest and the front porch area will be the perfect spot to sit back and relax with a cup of coffee or a good book.

Our secluded retreat borders the crown land so you can hike for as far as your heart desires and spot wildlife such as deer, rabbits, and squirrels. In the summer months, go for a swim in the nearby lakes or take a canoe out for a paddle. In the winter months, take advantage of the endless snowshoeing possibilities or take your snowmobile for a spin on a nearby trail that takes you right to Mont Tremblant for your skiing, snowboarding, dining, and shopping experiences. The stay will guarantee a unique and unforgettable experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Happy Holidays 2020 Edition

What a year! I am actually inclined to just leave it at that lol kidding aside, it has been a challenging year for all and we truly hope that the obstacles and hardships that this year brought taught us some valuable lessons. Globalities aside, we learnt that “right now” matters, that we may not get “tomorrow”, and we must cherish what we’ve got. We have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to be hopeful about. The latter, however, requires a lot of effort on humanity’s part. It’s a collective and conscious effort on everyone’s part to do better than we’ve been doing over the past hundred years. We should be focusing not on GDP or GNP upticks but preservation of ecosystems and symbiotic relationships of numerous species. There is no “getting back to normal”, there was never any “normal”, our so-called “normal” has got us here. The new decade is the time to rethink and redesign our brutally misguided “normal” before it’s too late - and this is where the hope comes into play. Let’s all lead by example, let’s all do no harm, let’s all think before we do.

Cheers,

Eva, Sam, Finn

Hidden Harvest Volunteering

Fall is in the air: it’s a beautiful, exciting, and very busy time of the year. In addition to our regular daily activities, fall always brings lots and lots of harvesting and volunteering fun. This year we converted our front and backyards into full blown vegetable and fruit gardens, and it’s Sam’s 2nd year of full season volunteering for Hidden Harvest Ottawa - a wonderful organization which year after year ensures that “fruit and nuts that would otherwise go to waste on public and private property are rescued by groups of volunteers through insured harvest events.”

During these uneasy times, we would like to encourage all of the crokinole lovers to continue supporting local communities and help out each other as much as we all can. We may not have tomorrow, but we have today, and we might as well may it count <3

And your life will never be the same, they said... :)

Hello, is it me you’re looking for?

- Lionel Richie

As some of you have probably noticed by our half-ghosted Instagram page, we’ve got an absolutely adorable family addition to our family - our son Finnegan. He came into our lives on April 18, 2020, and as all other parents used to ‘warn’ us, our lives indeed wouldn’t be the same anytime soon :). So if we’ve been slow to reply to your emails, messages, and calls, please-please bear with us as we navigate this challenging path of full-time Montessori-driven parenthood and our humble crokinole board making venture. We’re working tirelessly to wrap up the next batch of boards very shortly and teaming up with an amazing local seamstress for some crokinole bag offerings. Stay tuned and stay safe.

Lots of love,

Eva, Sam, and Sir Finnegan

Crokinole carrying bag: prototyping

You’d think designing a nice-looking crokinole board bag should not be that big of a deal but for whatever reason, it’s taking me forever :) It's a Long Way to Tipperary is playing on repeat in mind but I am nowhere near to being done yet due to a variety of reasons. Number one being - our current goals and inspirations make me want to ditch all the materials I ordered and start from scratch with something that actually aligns with our environmental values. I won’t give up though, I will continue prototyping with what I’ve got for now till all the design flaws are ironed out, and I’ll go from there. Stay tuned ;)

Cheers,

Eva, your aspiring sewist
